These festive swirled Christmas cookies are an easy and delightful treat to make for the holidays.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup red food coloring
  • 1/4 cup green food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and extracts, mixing well.
  4. Gradually add in the flour and salt, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough into two portions. Color one portion with red food coloring and the other with green.
  6. Roll out each portion between sheets of parchment paper into rectangles.
  7. Stack the green layer on top of the red layer and roll into a log.
  8. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  9. Slice the log into cookies and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  10. Let cool before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to roll the dough tightly to keep the swirls defined.
