Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In another bowl, mix the oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, and mix until smooth.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Frost with cream cheese icing once cooled.
