  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the oil, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and food coloring.
  5. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Add the vinegar and mix gently.
  7. Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  10. Once cooled, frost as desired.
