  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  4. Add minced garlic, dried basil, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. In a large bowl, combine the cooked ziti, tomato sauce, ricotta cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese.
  7. Transfer the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
